Today I Met An Author

in the office where i work, most of the professors stop in every day or
so to get their mail, and we chat, and sometimes i make them copies and do other little jobs. 

yesterday i made a copy of an excerpt from one professor's memoir and he let me hold on to one, so i read it. this is really cool alone because he wrote a book, and that's awesome just by itself. on top of that, the part i read was exceptional and incredibly personal, which is also cool becuase i never would have known those things about him from our normal daily interactions. 

so then today, i told him i enjoyed it and he said 'thanks, lots of people like it but i'm having such a hard time getting it published. it was never this difficult with any of my other books.' and basically, he's a novelist and has written five other books already. so i personally know and interact with a published writer all the time.

and then it got even better- he said 'you might have heard of amistad, that's my most famous book.'

i was totally blown away- thats like seeing a celebrity, all the time, at my silly college work study job. i love love love having such awesome people all around me.
